What is an iDRIVE Throttle Controller? And Why You Need One!

You may be asking "What is an iDrive?" and "What does a throttle controller do?" if so keep reading! An iDRIVE throttle controller doesn’t magically give your vehicle more horsepower, it does, however, change how your Engine Control Unit (ECU) reads input from your accelerator pedal and the speed at which that throttle input is applied to the engine.

All we can say about the iDRIVE throttle controller is prepare to be very pleasantly surprised, remember the last time you went to overtake and it just felt like the accelerator was not responding enough? Once you plug this small beauty in, you will not be thinking that again.

This small electronic unit decreases the occasional throttle lag you feel when you depress the accelerator pedal by increasing the throttle sensitivity and responsiveness. The iDRIVE controller features four driving modes and twenty adjustable settings, ensuring there is the perfect throttle response for any driving style or situation.

Economy Mode
Economy mode dampens your throttle response passed factory levels, the higher you go the more dampened your throttle becomes. Especially handy for low-speed towing situations and off-roading when more controlled power application to the wheels is required.

Ultimate Mode
Ultimate performance mode sharpens your throttle response, the higher you go the more aggressive your throttle becomes. Ultimate mode has 9 settings and can be grouped into three stages: Ultimate mode 1-3: Everyday driving with smooth acceleration. Ultimate mode 4-6: Sportier, more responsive acceleration, great for use around town where short bursts of acceleration are required. Ultimate mode 7-9: Strap yourself in and activate launch control, instant throttle response, beast mode, don’t say we didn’t warn you. Also great for heavy towing situations when you need to compensate for the extra added weight. Ultimate Mode offers 9 sensitivity levels allowing you to tune the controller to your desired level of sensitivity. These 9 Ultimate Mode sensitivity levels are how the iDRIVE acquired its new name: Ultimate9 EVC Throttle Controller!

AC Mode
Automatic Control mode is what makes the iDRIVE EVC throttle controller the most intelligent throttle controller on the market. Automatic control mode automatically selects the throttle sensitivity level based on the accelerator pedal pressure. If you are accelerating gently in traffic the iDRIVE will automatically choose a reduced level of throttle response, but if you accelerate hard for overtaking or just even just for fun the iDRIVE will choose a mode with an increased level of throttle response.

Don’t be nervous about tinkering with your vehicle’s electrical system, because fitting the iDRIVE accelerator controller is an easy task! Simply unplug the throttle pedal, plug in the iDRIVE system and then re-attach the accelerator pedal into the iDRIVE to make a piggy-back system. Easy! It may take you longer to route the cable and attach the iDRIVE control panel to the dash than it does to plug it in. Which makes it one very simple and easy way to improve the response time of your accelerator and remove what feels sluggish take off, all for under $300.

VE Online stock iDRIVE throttle controllers for a large range of vehicles including Ford Ranger, Holden Colorado, Toyota Hilux & Mitsubishi Pajero.

Lastly, another one of the easiest ways to improve engine and throttle response is by making sure your fuel filter is clean. When you stomp on the gas pedal, it sends a signal for more fuel to go into the engine. Check out our range of fuel filters online.
